Streton

Streton (/streton / [Translation Unavailable]) is a subtropical Town located in the Izclea Region of the Tetbur Commune.

The name Streton is derived from the Sylvin language, as Streton was founded by Èlkegado Gannis, who was culturaly Sylvin.

Climate

Streton has a yearly average temperature of 17°C (62°F), with its average temperature during the summer being a pleasant 21°C (69°F) and its average temperature during the winter being a cool 14°C (57°F). Streton receives an average of 249 cm/y (98 in/y) of precipitation, most of which comes in the form of rain during the summer. Streton covers an area of nearly 4 km² (1 mi²), and an average elevation of 2918 m (9573 ft) above sea level.

Overview

Streton was founded durring the early 11th century, by Èlkegado Gannis. The establishment of the new community went well, with no major obsticles durring construction.

Streton was built using the conventions of Sylvin durring the early 11th century. Naturaly, all settlmentss have their own look to them, and Streton is no diffrent. The town's buildings feature waddle and daub construction with good timber frames and a stone foundation protected by thatched or shingled rooves. Most buildings with second floors are built in such a way as to overhang into the streets on the upper floors for more space, as building size seems to be the primary indicator of wealth within the community. Most buildings are not decorated with any integral features, but instead use ivy, flowers, and other natural elements in planters of on trellices to breathe life into the structure they grow upon.

Streton is buildings are grouped arround an odd layout of broad paverstone streets, which seems to be based on an overlapping squair patern such that there are small squares at the cornor of every bigger square. Sometimes buildings exist in the smaller squaires, other times they are open spaces, or occupied by temporary structures. The town is the proud owner of a properly designed set of renforced walls made from mighty querried stone blocks. Their construction and material choices would make a dwarf weap with joy, for each and every part of the elaborate fortifications are purly functional and robust well byond reason. Even nonexperts can tell the walls are an excelent defencive structure. The town's exceptionaly well made fortifications have recently undergone extensive repairs and renovations, such that the repairwork is imeadiently apparent and can be spotted due to the diffring ages of materials. One can't help but wonder what brought the need for those repairs to the town.

Right off the bat Streton hits you in the face with its success. Everyone, even the peasants, are dressed in well made clothing. Every tool and implement you can see is finely made, and people will boast to you as obvious strangers of the wonders which can be found in their markets. More interestingly is a total lack of beggars, and plenty of new buildings are going up even as you speak. Somehow this town has come into quite a lot of wealth, and recently from the looks of things. This wealth has brought the town nothing but neurosis, if you can believe your eyes. Everyone acts as if you’re out to take a piece of them. Every door is locked and every window barred. Efforts are made to make you feel welcome, but only in the public areas of the town, particularly the market.

Civic Infrastructure

Streton has an Office of Civil Vicary, which is responsible for providing a livelyhood for all officialy recognised religious figures within Streton .

Streton has a Gravedigger's Guild, which is responsible for collecting the dead and laying them to rest according to all applicable laws and religious customs.

Streton has a Department of Firefighters, which is responsible for organizing fire fighting efforts during a fire and enforcing local ordinances relating to fire safety.

Streton has a Highwayman's Guild, which is tasked with maintaining the roads and highways leading into town as well as keeping them safe for travelers.

Streton has a monistary of an order of Civil Monks, who provide divine-related services to the general public and maintain Streton 's public wards, blessings, and other arcane systems.

Streton possesses a Galvanic Power Grid, which brings galvanic current to most if not all buildings in town, and permits a great many consumer goods to function within the Town. Streton 's grid is powered by an arcane means.

Streton has a Parks and Recreation Department, which is responsible for the construction, management, and usage rights for all of its parks and parklands.

Streton has a public schooling program overseen by the Hall of Sages who has the responsibility of ensuring access to affordable high-quality education in all basic classes (Reading, Writing, Mathmatics, General Sciences, General Arcana, and Social Education) is made available to all citizens.

Cultural Notes

Streton 's bank was built using a different architectural style from the rest of the town. The style used is best known for its striking sculptural forms and often dazzling ornamental detail that characterizes the buildings general shape. The radiant colors, rich patterns, and symmetrical silhouettes employed by this style were backed up by rich decorative features including gardens, courtyards, extruded arches, domes, pointed domes, vaulted ceilings, elaborate painted and inlaid designs, and decorative sculptures.

The Leshy, Gourd near Streton are known to be quite timid.

Streton 's citizens partake in a curious ritual relating to their local kami. It takes place in spring and involves creating small tokens to channel Chronomancy energies of tier 3 via chanting.

Economy

The following information was obtained via the Imperial Census Bureau as part of the Eyom Economic Outreach Program. It differs from Standard Imperial censuses in that many of Tom's citizens, regardless of culture, work in more than one occupation or hold more than a single job. The Imperial Census Bureau has ruled that a job is a job, hence, the intigers within the data presented here can count an individual more than once.

Points of Interest

A great magical Working has been a critical part of Streton since its creation, but now it's beginning to decay. It may function only intermittently, now, or its effects may have curdled into something double-edged. The locals have no idea how to fix it, and indeed, it may not be possible to repair it with modern science or sorcery.

The center of Streton 's town square was built around an ancient standing stone.

History

In time immemorial, reportedly some time during the early 2nd century, Streton was attacked by a group of notorious bandits. The details of the conflict are hazy at best due to many conflicting accounts. What is known is Streton lost 147 people, 180 livestock, and 98 buildings. The conflict ended after roughly 168, when members of Streton 's militia enacted an operation to destroy or capture a particular enemy powerful weapon. The operation was complicated by an outbreak of plague which struck the ranks, killing many and laying low many more. The conflict ended with needing to break through the enemy's lines, which ended in defeat for Streton 's forces. The war is remembered in legend by Streton 's bards, historians, and legend keepers.
